How to · for museum and site staff

Managing an official museum or historic-property page

For museums, historic houses, battlefields, and parks, including pages built from federal or state sources.

  1. Claim the page as described in "Claiming your organization's page". For a National Park Service site or a state property, the claim should come from an address at the managing agency.
  2. On the profile, fill in visiting details: hours, admission and fees, accessibility (step-free access, hearing loops, accessible restrooms), parking, and directions. Write for a visitor who has never been.
  3. Some pages are built from an official source — the National Park Service, or a state agency feed. Fields controlled by that source are marked; the official value is refreshed on a schedule. If you type into one, your text is filed as a proposed local addition and, when an editor approves it, shown beside the official information rather than replacing it. Every other change you send is likewise approved by an editor before it appears.
  4. Add programs, tours, and events under Add an event. They appear on your page and on the main calendar together.
  5. Review your page each season. Hours and fees change more than anything else, and visitors plan trips from them.
