Accessibility statement for CivilWarEvents.com — our WCAG 2.2 AA target, what we have done, known limitations, and how to report a barrier.

Our target
CivilWarEvents.com aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This calendar is used by researchers, museum staff, and readers of every age, and it should work for all of them.
What we have built in
- Semantic headings, landmarks, and lists throughout, with one
h1per page. - A “skip to main content” link as the first focusable element.
- Full keyboard operation, including the menu and every filter control.
- Visible focus outlines that are never removed.
- Text and interface colours that meet AA contrast against their backgrounds.
- Form fields with real labels, described errors, and
aria-invalidstate. - Alternative text on event images; decorative marks hidden from screen readers.
- Dates announced in full to assistive technology even where the visible card shows an abbreviated date stamp.
- Touch targets of at least 44 × 44 pixels.
- Respect for the operating system’s reduced-motion setting.
- No horizontal scrolling at 320 pixels wide; wide tables scroll within their own frame.
- A print stylesheet, so a listing can be taken to a show on paper.
Known limitations
- The month grid is a dense seven-column layout. Below 720 pixels it becomes a day-by-day list, which is easier to read with a screen reader or at high zoom; the list view is available at every width.
- Alternative text on organizer-supplied images depends on what the organizer provides. Editors add it where it is missing, but a newly approved listing may briefly carry a generic description.
- Advertising creatives are supplied by advertisers. We require alternative text, but we do not control the artwork itself.
