How CivilWarEvents.com handles personal information: what an event submission collects, what advertising records, what is never stored, and how to reach us about your data.
Last updated 24 July 2026.
The short version
Browsing this calendar requires no account, sets no advertising cookies, and loads no third-party tracking scripts. The only personal information we hold is what someone deliberately sends us on the event submission form or by email.
What an event submission collects
The submission form asks for the event details and for a contact name, email address, and optional telephone number. We use those to verify the listing and to reach the organizer about it.
Contact details are published on the event page only when the submitter ticks the box asking us to. Otherwise they stay in the editorial system and are never shown publicly or in the API.
To limit abuse, the form records a one-way salted hash of the submitting connection’s IP address and the browser user-agent string. The IP address itself is never stored.
Cookies
The public site sets no cookies. Cloudflare Turnstile, the spam check on the submission form, may set its own to distinguish people from bots — Cloudflare does not use it for advertising profiling.
One cookie exists on the administrative area at /admin: a signed session cookie for the site’s editors. It is not set for visitors.
Advertising
Banners are served by Artifact Search (artifactsearch.com), also operated by Historical Publications LLC. It records that an advertisement was displayed or clicked on this site, along with the browser user-agent. It does not build a cross-site profile of you, and it uses no third-party ad network, ad SDK, or behavioural targeting.
Analytics
Cloudflare provides aggregate, cookieless traffic statistics for this site. They report counts — pages, countries, referrers — and cannot identify an individual.
What we never do
- We do not sell or rent personal information.
- We do not share submitter contact details with advertisers.
- We do not run third-party behavioural advertising or retargeting.
- We do not send marketing email to addresses collected on the submission form.
Retention
Published event listings are kept indefinitely as a historical record. Submissions that are rejected, and their contact details, are kept for twelve months and then deleted. Rate-limiting counters expire within hours.
Your rights
Write to us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. If your contact details appear on a listing and you would rather they did not, say so and they come off.
