Adding or updating an event

How an organization adds a meeting, lecture, tour, or program, and how to change or cancel one.

  1. Sign in at civilwarevents.com/portal and choose your organization.
  2. Press Add an event. Give the event a name, the date (and end date if it runs more than one day), the time, and where it takes place. Your organization's name and usual meeting place are filled in for you; change them if this event is different.
  3. Add a short description — the speaker, the topic, whether guests are welcome, and whether there is a charge. Press Save.
  4. The event is sent to an editor and appears on your organization's page and on the main CivilWarEvents.com calendar at the same time once it is approved. There is only ever one copy of an event; it is never entered twice.
  5. To change an event later, open it from your organization's portal, edit, and press Send changes for approval. To cancel or postpone, press the Ask to cancel or Ask to postpone button and say briefly why. An editor approves every change before it appears; cancellations are handled first, usually the same day.

Worth knowing

  • You can save a partly completed event and return to it later; nothing is published until an editor approves it.
  • A series (for example four evening lectures) is one event with several dates — add the dates under Additional sessions rather than creating four events.
