About this event

Join NPS staff and volunteers for a weekend event focusing on the founding of our nation, including the life and gear of Revolutionary War and Civil War soldiers, weapons firing demonstrations, and specialty programs in the visitor center theater. Saturday 26th Weapons Firing Demos at the New York State Monument, 11a & 1p. Join us for a compare and contrast program looking at 18th vs 19th century weapons. After the firing demonstration, visitors will have a chance to view the weapons, equipment, and clothing that was used by soldiers from the Revolutionary War and Civil War. From Philadelphia to Sharpsburg - Join the park rangers from IndependenceNational Historical Park and Antietam National Battlefield for an interpretive program focusing on the history of the Philadelphia Associators during the Revolutionary War and their legacy in arms during the Battle of Antietam through the action of the 72nd PA. Visitor Center Theater @ 3p. Life of a Revolutionary War and Civil War Soldier . This is a non-firing demo. Join National Park Service staff for a compare and contrast program looking at 18th and 19th century gear and weapons. This program will focus on similarities and differences between the equipment, clothing, and tools used by soldiers during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. This program will be on-going throughout the day at Auto Tour Stop 1, Dunker Church. Sunday, 27th Weapons Firing Demos at the New York State Monument, 11a & 1p. Join us for a compare and contrast program looking at 18th vs 19th century weapons. Bringing Independence Hall to Antietam - Join a park ranger from Independence National Historical Park for an interpretive program focusing on the evolution of Independence Hall, from Pennsylvania State House to National Park Service site.
